PORSCHE AND FRAUSCHER UNVEIL THE 790 SPECTRE: THE WORLD'S FASTEST ELECTRIC YACHT

Porsche and the Austrian boat manufacturer Frauscher have reached a new milestone in high-performance electric mobility with the unveiling of the Frauscher x Porsche 790 Spectre, a sophisticated sports yacht that set a world speed record at the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge last July. The vessel reached a speed of 51.05 knots, establishing itself as the world's fastest mass-produced electric speedboat.

The partnership between Porsche and Frauscher stands as one of the most successful alliances between the automotive and luxury marine industries. The collaboration’s history dates back to the 2023 debut of the 850 Fantom Air, followed a year later by the 850 Fantom; both models shared a fundamental element: the advanced electric powertrain from the Porsche Macan Turbo.

These earlier projects laid the groundwork for the culmination of years of research and development: the 790 Spectre.

The relationship between the two companies reflects a shared vision that the future of transport—whether on land or at sea—lies in electric innovation, without compromising the performance, luxury, or brand identity that define both companies.

THE DÜSSELDORF DEBUT: UNVEILING A VISION FOR THE FUTURE

During the opening week of the prestigious boat show in Düsseldorf, Germany, Porsche and Frauscher officially presented the 790 Spectre to an international audience. The event provided the perfect stage to launch a product that represents a significant leap forward in high-performance electric boating.

The 790 Spectre was developed specifically around the high-performance electric powertrain of the Porsche Macan Turbo.

  • 100 kWh high-voltage battery, providing the energy needed for sustained high-speed operation.
  • 536-horsepower permanent-magnet synchronous motor—identical to the one used in the Macan Turbo—delivering exceptional acceleration and the instant response characteristic of electric powertrains.
  • Sophisticated electronic control and charging systems, ensuring energy efficiency and stability across various operating conditions.

DIMENSIONS AND OPTIMIZED DESIGN

At nearly 26 feet (8 meters) in length, the 790 Spectre is notably more compact than its predecessors. Specifically:

  • It is lighter than the 850 Fantom and 850 Fantom Air.
  • It is shorter in length.
  • It features a narrower hull, optimized to reduce hydrodynamic drag.

A lighter hull translates to better energy efficiency, lower battery consumption, and, consequently, greater range. The hull geometry was optimized to fully leverage the electric motor's characteristics, enabling the vessel to reach speeds that would have seemed impossible just a few years ago.

In designing the 790 Spectre, Porsche did not simply apply its logo to a boat; instead, it translated the electric SUV's fundamental design elements into the marine environment.

  • Ignition button positioned to the left of the steering wheel—a detail that exactly replicates the Macan's configuration.
  • Steering wheel upholstered in premium-quality Porsche synthetic leather.
  • Two front sports seats and a rear bench seat, all featuring the embroidered Porsche Crest.
  • Five traditional round instruments on the dashboard—classic Porsche elements that visually link to the brand's decades-long heritage.
  • Customized key finished in the same color as the vessel's hull—a truly extraordinary touch of attention to detail.

WORLD RECORD AT THE MONACO ENERGY BOAT CHALLENGE

The Monaco Energy Boat Challenge is one of the most important events dedicated to innovation and sustainable marine mobility. Held annually at Monaco's Port Hercules under the auspices of the Yacht Club de Monaco, the event brings together engineering students from prestigious technical universities alongside leading manufacturers and industry pioneers.

Approximately one thousand students from over 20 countries—including teams from India, China, and other global technology hubs—participate each year. The event goes beyond mere competition; it serves as a platform for the industry to showcase, discuss, and accelerate new solutions aimed at transforming the future of maritime transport.

SETTING THE NEW SPEED STANDARD

At the most recent Monaco Energy Boat Challenge, the Frauscher x Porsche 790 Spectre reached 51.05 knots, surpassing the previous record of 49.84 knots set by the 850 Fantom exactly one year earlier. This progression is not merely incremental; it represents the exponential acceleration of innovation in marine electric propulsion.

To put this in perspective, a speed of 51 knots equates to approximately 94 kilometers per hour. For a production vessel powered entirely by battery-electric energy—with no internal combustion engine—this figure is extraordinary.

PRODUCTION MODEL, NOT A PROTOTYPE

A crucial aspect distinguishing the 790 Spectre is that it is a production model available to private owners, not an experimental prototype. Its outstanding performance stems from the fact that the 536-horsepower motor was not simply adapted to an existing hull; the entire hull was designed around the Macan Turbo’s electric propulsion system. This involved:

• Optimizing weight distribution to maximize performance

• Redesigning the hull to minimize hydrodynamic drag

• Integrating the high-voltage battery to optimize the center of gravity

• Adapting all electronic control systems for the marine environment

The 790 Spectre demonstrates that electric propulsion not only matches but surpasses the performance of internal combustion technology, while offering additional benefits:

• Zero emissions during operation

• Reduced noise pollution, resulting in a quieter boating experience

• Superior acceleration thanks to the electric motor's instant response

• Lower maintenance requirements, with no need for oil changes or complex engine servicing

• Energy efficiency that provides greater range per unit of energy
