MAN ENGINES AT SMM 2026: HIGHER PERFORMANCE, LOWER EMISSIONS, AND SUSTAINABLE SERVICES
MAN D3872: New 30-liter engine for heavy-duty and onboard auxiliary applications.
Exhaust gas aftertreatment: Modular system with diesel particulate filter (DPF) and SCR certified for EU Stage V.
Circular economy: Factory remanufacturing of MAN engines drastically reduces the carbon footprint.
At the SMM 2026 trade fair in Hamburg, MAN Engines will present its expanded marine portfolio for workboats. The highlight of the event will be the world debut of the 30-liter V12 MAN D3872 engine, configured for auxiliary gensets, diesel-electric propulsion, and heavy-duty service. The display is complemented by a modular exhaust gas aftertreatment system and an original MAN Genuine remanufactured engine, reinforcing the brand's strategy of offering comprehensive and technically coordinated marine solutions.
MAN D3872 ENGINE PLATFORM
Developed on MAN's proven V12 architecture, the D3872 maximizes power density and mechanical robustness in a compact design. It offers coverage for various operating profiles on a single platform:
- Auxiliary and diesel-electric service: Power outputs of 800 kW or 840 kW at 1,500 rpm, and 960 kW at 1,800 rpm. Available according to IMO Tier II (without aftertreatment), IMO Tier III (SCR), or EU Stage V (SCR + DPF) regulations.
- Heavy-Duty propulsion: Power outputs of 735 kW (1,000 hp) and 920 kW (1,250 hp) at 1,800 rpm for demanding continuous operation. Features single-stage turbocharging and IMO Tier II/III and EU Stage V type approvals.
- Medium-Duty: Power outputs of 1,213 kW (1,650 hp) and 1,324 kW (1,800 hp), designed for IMO Tier II/III and EPA Tier 4.
- Light-Duty: High ratings of 1,471 kW (2,000 hp) and 1,618 kW (2,200 hp) for dynamic profiles, under IMO Tier III and EPA Tier 3 regulations.
MODULAR EXHAUST AFTERTREATMENT SYSTEM MAN
Engines' modular system—which integrates a diesel particulate filter and SCR catalyst—ensures compliance with the EU Stage V standard for both generators and heavy-duty propulsion. Designed specifically to optimize engine room space, the engine, aftertreatment, and electronic management package offers maximum operational reliability backed by the global MAN service network.
MAN GENUINE REMANUFACTURING ENGINES MAN
Engines will also exhibit its standardized factory remanufacturing program. Going beyond the traditional repair concept, this process restores engines to an as-new condition under strict quality standards, providing the same warranty as a brand-new factory unit.
A study conducted on the MAN D2842 engine highlights the environmental benefits of this model:
- Up to 72% savings in CO2 emissions compared to manufacturing a new engine.
- Drastic reduction in raw material consumption through component reuse.
